| Dixon Advisory Owls First Grade v Queanbeyan Match Report 10.07.10 |
|
The Owls welcomed Queanbeyan to ANU North for the commencement of the run home to the semi finals. The Owls were looking to put a series of disappointing results behind them while Queanbeyan were looking to consolidate there place in the top four. The combination of Uni break and the University Games at Coffs Harbour saw the Owls preparation somewhat disrupted. The game started well with both teams very willing in both attack and defence. The Owls had a number of periods in possession but were denied by typically relentless Queanbeyan defence. Again we were our own worse enemies missing crucial tackles, turning the ball over and taking poor options. We made 4 key mistakes that let Queanbeyan in for four tries in the first half and saw them lead 26 – 3 at half time. Coach Fahey (I will never know how he does it) was his calm and constructive self at half time although the residue of the spray he delivered last Saturday must still have been ringing in some players’ heads. The second half was much better all round for the Owls. Our tackling was much more intense and our ability to hold the ball improved dramatically. The thing that is intriguing is that we matched Queanbeyan in most facets of the game but our poor execution keeps letting us down and handing the opposition opportunities to win the game. We managed to score three second half tries to Marc Berthelot, Adam Coleman and Afa Amosa. Liam Gallagher converted two of them but Queanbeyan ran out winners 47 – 22. Afa Amosa was judged our Players Player with Chris Seutini rewarded for a big game with 3 points. Ron Hobden never stopped and was awarded 2 points. Adam Coleman who continues to improve was awarded 1 point. Our effort and commitment was much improved from last week’s tawdry effort but we will need to improve again if we are to trouble Gungahlin in two weeks time. Player for player we can match any team in the competition, we just need a little more self belief and an ounce of luck because based on the weekend's results the competition for the last two spots in the semi finals is wide open. Remember we have a bye this week but return to action on Saturday 24th July against Gungahlin at Nicholls in a game we need to win. |
