Dixon Advisory Owls First Grade v Easts Match Report 3.07.10
The Owls welcomed Easts to ANU North Oval for the John I Dent Cup Round 7 clash. Both sides were looking for a win to support their claims as contenders.

Even before the kick-off it was evident that our attitude and determination from previous weeks was missing. We had an opportunity to jump into the top four but instead seemed intent on providing Easts with every possible opportunity to take the game.  Across the park we lacked both the application and commitment required to win at this level. We face a tough run home unless we can quickly recover these qualities.

Right from the opening kick-off we made Easts look good through poor options, insufficient ball security and missed tackles. This resulted in Easts being ahead 22–0 at halftime. There was little improvement in the second half with Easts running out winners 39-5.

Disappointingly the Owls worst performance so far this season was in front of our best home crowd for quite some time. There were many faces in the crowd that had not been seen for many a year.

Enough said about that. We must learn our lesson and learn it well because this week we face Queanbeyan at ANU North and they will be far less forgiving than Easts. Coach Fahey laid it all out very simply last Saturday naming respect, self-belief and discipline as the cornerstones of our game. If we are to compete with the Whites this Saturday these are the things we will need in abundance.  I know deep down that we have these things and they will emerge if we just simply execute the plan,  perform the tasks assigned and trust the man standing next to us.

Clearly the players have the ability to perform at a 1st grade level and combined with little confidence will see the young Owls get their season back on track.
