Dixon Advisory First Grade Owls v Wests Match Report 26.06.10
The Owls travelled to Jamison to take on Wests for Round 6 of the John I Dent Cup.  Morale was high as were our expectations after a number of solid performances and a narrow one point loss to Royals on our last outing.

West’s over the last two seasons seem to have become a bit of a bogey man for the Owls 1st Grade team and unfortunately this pattern continued last Saturday.  From the opening kickoff we seemed to be under pressure. The composure and diligence to stick to the plan that we had seen in previous weeks deserted us.  Any pressure that we did mount was always released through silly mistakes that provided Wests with an easy ride all afternoon. When we did have the ball we looked good and were able to trouble our opposition but these periods were all too infrequent.  Wests were in charge at the break 29-10. Our first half scorers were Afa Amosa and Les Makin.

The second half continued much like the first so I won’t trouble you with the moribund details. We scored three tries with one each to Rob Laverie, Les Makin and Corey Hammond. Wests ran out deserved winners 50-25.

Our Players Player went to Afa Amosa for another strong performance.  Afa was also awarded the three points with two points going to Les Makin and one to Adam Coleman.

This week we welcome Easts for our second home game of the year at ANU North in what emerges as a pivotal game in the Owls 1st Grade team’s season. Easts are a much improved outfit this season and will be coming to ANU North to win.  We have shown that we can trouble anyone in the competition but need to take this to a level not demonstrated by Uni Norths since winning the premiership in the 1990s.  We have to become ruthless in our determination to win and stop providing the opposition with opportunities to win through our silly mistakes and lack of concentration. If we are to be any sort of threat in the back half of the season then we must win and win well this Saturday.  We can win but only if we stick to the plan and develop a much needed streak of ruthlessness.
